Patna: Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishor, who is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding cancellation of the BPSC exam, was detained by the Patna Police. The detention took place during the operation in the early hours of Monday. Prashant Kishor was on this hunger strike to press for the cancellation of the exam, and his detention came as a response to the situation.
This means that the authorities (in this case, Patna Police) decided to detain Prashant Kishor due to the prevailing circumstances, especially his hunger strike.
According to sources, Prashant Kishor was “forcibly removed” from Patna’s Gandhi Maidan and taken to AIIMS in an ambulance by the police. A video shared by news agency ANI shows senior officers of Patna Police forcibly removing Prashant Kishor from the site of his hunger strike despite protests from his supporters.
Prashant Kishor, the founder of Jan Suraj, has been on a hunger strike since Thursday, 2 January, demanding the cancellation of the integrated 70th Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on 13 December. He started this hunger strike in view of the future of the children.
However, the BPSC had ordered a re-examination for a group of candidates who were involved in the allegations of question paper leak during the exam held on 13 December. The re-examination was conducted by the Commission on Saturday at 22 centres in Patna.
Out of the total 12,012 candidates, around 8,111 candidates had downloaded their admit cards. However, on Saturday, January 4, 5,943 students appeared for the exam again.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the BPSC said the re-examination was conducted peacefully at all the centres. No malpractice was committed and no malpractice was reported.
